The principal rocks
r.1 - Is the first rock that you can find along the ancient road “ delle Aquane”. This historical surface, a bit worn- out, has got 3 chronological phases: in the sector below we can see engravings with prayers, deriving from Neolithic Age; instead in the part above we observe figures with weapons and duelists warriors, engraved around the second half of the last millennium a.C (Iron Age);the crosses represent the last phase because they are an addition of historical epoch.
r.6 - Big historical surface of Iron Age and in particular between 800 and 400 a.C, period that coincide with the so-called “ phase of Etruscan influence”. We can find a lot of iconographical themes in which stand out the “ footprints” (around 200). In the pert below come out a double pair of warriors busy in a duel, they are important because of their care. Sometimes the warriors details allow people to give dating to the figures. The figures may represent duel because in ancient Age it has got a social and religious meaning, like in the judicial duel in which the war between two champions avoid the war between two alliances, to give honor to the dead hero. You can say also that it may represent a mythological scene. In the rock there are some north-Etruscan epigraphs and other symbols with also the five-pointed star and the populated structure. Near the rock 6 there is rock n 7.
r.4 - the small surface with some daggers engraved, alabarde and concentric rims, dating to the end of the Copper Age. The group of the weapons here represented has a possible meaning, it could be a sort of religion for the weapons, seen like a magic object and like a substitution, where the engravings take a real place. Near this rock there is the n5.
r.21 -There are different figures represented on the rock, the big prayer, some “ macule” (a sort of spots) that are special parts of the rock. This spots belong to Copper Age, and they are a signature of nature, that can be consider holy.
r.22 - 23 - An entire surface, big and long , divided in 2 portion. There are 3 phases: the first, in the part below on the right, there are agricultural scenes with plows and daggers, is represented the Copper Age. This scenes are linked to fertility and prosperity. The second one is in the south-west part, where there are different types of weapons, of Bronze Age. The third part is located in the middle of the rock and there is a word written by Camuni. It may represent the name of a divinity.
r.24 divided in three parts: a big part on downhill, where the engravings are becoming rare, there is a beautiful scene with deers chase after a dog. Next to the bridge there is a village, with ideal huts, footprints , coming from different phases of Iron Age. In the central part, under the bridge, there are humans, two characters are represented in an army dancing, with round helmets and the “ Rosa Camuna”. Another character is dancing next to a musician. Other engravings are less visible, like some words and two knifes, of the (II sec. a.C. – I sec. d.C.). next to this rock there is the rocks 48 and 49.
r.36 - A small surface in which there is an archer and an elegant and care character with a weapon that seems like a small arch.
It follow the group of rocks 39 - 38 – 37
r.26 - r.27 - This group of rocks is the most important scene of rock engravings, and it is the one of the most completed rock in Camonica Valley. In the middle part of this scene there is a big horse with his man that represent the importance linked to the ride during Iron Age. In the western part are painted different figures of middle- late Iron Age, warriors, men in duels and the so-called “ Tempio di Nadro”, concentric rims, footprints, and other geometric signs. On the corner below we can see an anthropomorphic that seems to praise an atrophozoomorph, late Neolithic. The above part is full of axes. In the occidental part there is the so famous Rosa Camuna.
r.35 - The end of the route is represent by the rock n 35, the smallest one, but well designed. Here there is “ la cometa” , a part of the rock that tell us something about funeral rite referred to a woman, and other instruments linked to house's care.
